Handling missed payments and finance servicing exceptions

Design a traceable exception workflow for payment events and customer servicing.

Payment events can be delayed, repeated or disputed. A servicing workflow should distinguish the event received from the action taken, and preserve the source, time and related agreement reference. Do not treat a missing event as proof that a payment failed.

Design the workflow

Define how exceptions are categorised, assigned and escalated. Make customer communication dependent on verified status and approved procedures. Provide a reconciliation path when internal and external records disagree, and retain an audit trail for corrections.

Test and govern

Test delayed notifications, duplicate events, reversed entries, changed contact details and unresolved disputes. Agree service ownership and the evidence required to close an exception. Where a decision affects a customer’s agreement or cover, route it through the accountable human process rather than automating from incomplete data.

Define the source of truth, accountable owner and exception path before implementation. Test representative scenarios and retain the evidence needed to review outcomes. This practical guidance does not make a claim about a specific VYPR product capability.
