VYPR Pricing

Testing rating rule changes with a release checklist

A software delivery checklist for testing changes to rating rules without making assumptions about insurance pricing.

Changes to rating software should be tested against documented requirements and reviewed by the people accountable for the affected product and rules. This checklist focuses on software change control; it does not describe how an insurer should price a risk.

Define the change before testing

Record the change owner, approved requirement, affected version and expected behavior. Keep the source of each expected result visible so reviewers can distinguish an approved rule from a test assumption.

Cover ordinary and boundary cases

Use representative test cases alongside boundary values, missing inputs and invalid combinations. Confirm how the system handles rounding, optional fields and validation errors only where those behaviors are specified. Record actual output against the approved expected result.

Check for unintended changes

  • Run regression cases for unaffected paths.
  • Check that errors and incomplete inputs remain visible.
  • Confirm that the tested version matches the proposed release.
  • Keep test evidence linked to the change and reviewer.

Plan release and recovery

Agree release ownership, monitoring and a rollback or correction path before deployment. Define the evidence that must be reviewed after release and the person who can pause or reverse the change.

Rating rules and insurance pricing decisions require accountable product, underwriting and compliance owners. This general software checklist does not validate a pricing method, product term or customer outcome, and it makes no claim about VYPR capabilities.
